Aggreko doubles Ivory Coast output

Aggreko had doubled the generating capacity to its project in Ivory Coast, bringing the total output at the site to 200 MW.

The Aggreko plant in the Vridi area of Abidjan was first opened in 2010 with a provisional 70 MW of output; 30 MW was added in 2011. However, following growth in the Ivory Coast economy, which has led to increased demand on the local grid, the decision was taken to double output this year.

“We are pleased to be adding an additional 100 MW into the national grid as part of our programme of strengthening the energy infrastructure across the country,” said Amidou Traore, director general, CI-Energies.

“The 200 MW supplied from the Aggreko plant is an important component of the energy generation mix and helps us maintain supply to our customers while we develop our long-term infrastructure programmes.”

The Ivory Coast addition follows the commissioning of a 122 MW gas-fired plant at Ressano Garcis in Mozambique and takes Aggreko’s operational total to 1000 MW in gas-fired power plants.
