Big Carl’s first major lift at HPC

The 5,000 tonne capacity Sarens SGC-250, aka Big Carl, has completed its first major lift at Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in the UK. It was the first of more than 700 lifts that the SGC-250 will perform here over the next four years, on behalf of client Bylor and project owner EDF/ NNB. The loads will range from precast concrete elements to pipe sections, steel rings, and machinery equipment weighing from 10 to 1,600 tonnes. The SGC-250 will also lift five major parts of each unit’s steel containment liner and dome.
