The SaMoTer 2020 construction equipment exhibition in Verona, Italy, has now officially been postponed, due to the rapid spread of the Covid-19 strain of Coronavirus.

Italy’s premier construction trade show was due to be held from 21-25 March, 2020, but has now officially been rescheduled for 16-20 May 2020.

In consideration of the ramifications of the move, Veronafiere published on its website that it considers the safety and health of exhibitors, visitors, guests, employees and collaborators to be absolute priorities in the conduct of its business.

For this reason, Veronafiere said it has been carefully monitoring developments linked with the spread of the Covid-19 virus, following the prevention guidelines indicated by the Ministry of Health and the indications envisaged in the Ordinance issued on 23 February 2020.

Previously, Veronafiere had reported that as a precautionary measure, Italian shows, initiatives and events likely to attract significant numbers of people would be suspended until Sunday 1 March 2020.

Other events run by the SaMoTer organisers such as the Innovabiomed event, which was scheduled for Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 March have now also been postponed.

The Innovabiomed event has now been pushed back to June 2020, with Veronafiere’s Model Expo Italy and Elettroexpo shows, which were scheduled for Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 March, now due to be held in November 2020.

Veronafiere said it will promptly notify of any other changes that may be necessary in relation to further ordinances issued by public health authorities.

A number of other Italian events have already been cut short or closed off from the public as a result of the rising threat of pandemic.

Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani held his Woman’s Fall Winter 2020-21 fashion show without a live audience, instead only streaming it to social media channels.

Also set to be held behind closed doors is the Inter Milan vs Ludogorets football match-up in the Europa League competition – due to be hosted on 27 February at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy.
