Manitou introduces MEWPs and telehandlers

Manitou Group introduced a range of its products to the North American market at ConExpo, demonstrating its growing ambitions in the continent.

Premiers included the new MTA 12055 telehandler. This model, designed and distributed only in North America, has the largest lifting capacity in the construction telehandler range, offering 12,000 lb (5.5 tonnes). It has a lifting height of 55 ft 5 in (17 m) and can carry 5,500 lb (2.5 tonnes) at full extension. The MTA 12055 is suited to infrastructure, bridge and construction projects and has a turning radius of only 12 ft 2 in (3.7 m). Equipped with a 120 hp engine and powershift transmission, the model has a maximum travel speed of 22.8 mph. There is also easy access to the engine components to ensure ease of maintenance.

Manitou also exhibited a range of solutions dedicated to mining, demonstrating the company’s interest in this area. The MHT 790 presented at Conexpo is a good example. It has a maximum load capacity of 19,840 lb (9 tonnes) for a lift height of up to 23 ft (7 m). This model has a load management system (LMS) integrated in the dashboard, enabling very heavy items to be moved safely.

The range of MEWPs dedicated to the North American market was expanded too at the show, bringing the total to four platforms ranging from 60 ft to 85 ft. Two of these models, the TJ 85 boom and the all new VJR 26 electric vertical mast are on display at Conexpo.

Manufactured in Candé, France, the TJ 85 has a platform height of 85 ft (26 m) for a lifting capacity of 770 lb (350 kg) or 3 people with equipment. It also has a remote control, which provides the ability to fold the jib under the telescopic arm to reduce the length of the machine when loading onto a truck. The working height of 85 ft (28 m) and horizontal outreach of over 70 ft (21 m) meets the requirements of port, industrial maintenance and construction work.

In addition,the company debuted a Gehl electric skid loader at the Conexpo show. Powered by lithium-ion batteries, this zero emissions concept machine showcases the group’s focus on alternative energies. Based on the R 165 compact skid loader model, this electric version has the same rated capacity of 1,650 lb (750 kg). Noise levels are reduced drastically on the machine and it is designed for sites where noise emissions are a particularly sensitive issue, like schools, hospitals, shopping malls or any other highly populated environment.

In keeping with its goal of expanding technological solutions, Manitou Group is  introducing two smartphone applications for Manitou, Gehl and Mustang machines to track information about the equipment. The MyManitou and MyGehl applications are designed to provide information immediately.

The operator can at any time find the location of up to five machines, their fuel consumption and fuel level, and detect potential technical problems. To avoid productivity-sapping downtime, it is possible for the operator to contact their dealership easily via these applications to anticipate any work required on the machine. All the necessary documentation is also available, including warranty, in-service information and machine operation guide.
