Konecranes UK has won contracts for electric overhead travelling cranes from Siemens in Austria and from Cordeel for a shipyard in Romania.

Scotland-based industrial crane builder Konecranes UK, in conjunction with Konecranes Berlin office, has won a contract from Siemens Austria to supply EOT cranes for a new power plant. The order is for two 370 tonne capacity SMD type cranes with 25 tonne main and 2 tonne auxiliary hoist and two 100 tonne capacity SMD cranes with 3 tonne auxiliary hoists on a monorail. All will span 28 m.

Included in the specification is Remox radio control with fixed pendant back up and the DynA inverter variable speed control on all motions. Additional features include ControlPro condition monitoring, floodlights, anti-collision system and limit switches.

The second order, from Cordeel NV, is to supply a pair of 100 tonne capacity SMD cranes for its newRomanian shipyard project. Each of the 36.5 m span cranes will have two 50 tonne hoists. The DynA inverter control system is on all motions and a master and slave type radio control will let one operator control all four hoists on both cranes. Anti-collision and end of travel limit switches, plus others, will also feature.

ControlPro Monitoring monitors hoist operation and includes overload detection and brake wear monitoring. Using the hoist duty rating it calculates to plan maintenance according to the actual duty. It also stores and records the number of cycles, overload attempts and when temperature overloads are tripped.

The orders will be delivered in 2010 and 2011.
