Collier goes for Volvo
27 November 2014
Volvo has delivered two 32 tonne L220H wheeled loaders to Scottish operation Collier Quarrying & Recycling for use in rehandling tasks at the latter’s Goat Hill Quarry in Cowdenbeath, Fife. The machines are in charge of the stocking out area where high quality Plus 65 PSV stone chippings are loaded out on both the company’s fleet of Volvo road lorries as well as general haulage, distributing material as far afield as the Midlands in England.
Introduced at this year’s Hillhead exhibition, the Volvo L220H features a 13 litre stage IV final engine developing 278 kW (373 hp) in a relatively low rpm range of between 1,300 and 1,400 rpm. The machine also benefits from Volvo designed and manufactured driveline components including optishift with torque converter lock up and reverse by braking feature – all designed to offer considerable fuel savings each shift. Fuel savings are further enhanced by the Volvo Eco pedal that encourages the operator to run the machine at its optimum rpm in the engine’s torque curve.
Collier produces the Plus 65 PSV product as well as recycled Type 1 and Class 6F2 materials. In addition, the company produces sub and top soils along with bulk infill materials. The Goat Hill facility houses a recycling centre that can accommodate inert construction waste, such as road plannngs, demolition waste, soils and sub base materials.
