UK-based technology firm Equivital has launched a wearable device to aid social distancing for retuning construction workers.

The company says the eqWave uses Ultra Wide Band (UWB) radio and Bluetooth technology to detect other devices and measure the distance between them to cm accuracy.

Set to operate out-of-the-box at 2m distance, the device can be adjusted in line with current government guidelines.

With 360-degree coverage, the FCC- and CE-cleared device alerts the wearer when other devices are within 2m with an LED and vibration, even in environments where line-of-sight transmission is not possible.

A partner app for mobile devices offers ‘over the air’ updates, plus access to new features, including contact tracing.

Equivital CEO, Anmol Sood, said, “We wanted to support employers to be able to bring their teams back to work safely. Our team identified a way in which we could support the fight against Covid-19 and have then developed and deployed the eqWave device within record time to support staff returning to work.”
