Mammoet to add two big Demags

25 April 2008

International heavy lift and transport specialist, Mammoet, based in the Netherlands, has ordered a pair of heavy lift crawler cranes to add to its already extensive fleet.

Largest of the two new cranes will be a 1,600 tonne capacity Terex-Demag CC 8800-1 with heavy lift equipment. It is an upgrade, using stronger boom sections, of the 1,250 tonne capacity CC 8800. The crane will be operated with a joint venture partner in the Middle East and is due for delivery in 2007.

The other new crane is a 1,250 tonne capacity Terex-Demag CC 6800. The crawler, rated at 13,800 tonne-metres, has a 3.5 m wide boom and is an upgrade of the 1,000 tonne capacity CC 5800 first seen in iron last November.

Speaking exclusively to IC, a Mammoet spokesperson explained that both cranes will be additions to the fleet, as opposed to replacements, to meet unprecedented demand from energy related projects around the world.
