Barrier to dust
17 August 2008
US recycling operation Spring Street Recycling, located in West Haven, Conneticut, is now using a Dust Boss DB-60 dust suppression system from Dust Control Technology to control dust during its crushing and associated loading operations – a crucial factor when it came to obtaining a site operating permit to crush local demolition waste into aggregate that can be sold as clean fill material.
The company is using a variety of dust suppression techniques to minimise adverse dust impacts in addition to the Dust Boss equipment. Its primary crusher, a Lippman Milwaukee 3062 jaw unit, features a series of spray nozzles in the feed opening to provide internal and external saturation. Material is then transported via a 13.7 m (45 ft) conveyor to a triple deck screen, with secondary crushing being carrier out by a Lippman Milwaukee 5165 impact crusher, also with internal dust suppression.
According to Spring Street owner Lou Gherlone: “ The plans for this facility were closely scrutinised by the regulatory authority and local citizens. We had to satisfy everyone that we had proven technology in place to run a very clean operation that would’nt contribute dust to neighbouring wetlands or the community. Without the latest dust suppression techniques, we would not have been able to do that.”
