DustBoss solution for IronHustler in Sterling, Illinois
17 October 2011
Peoria, USA, based companies IronHustler Excavating and ELM Consulting have teamed up to develop a three phase demolition and remediation plan for the 20 acre former Northwester Steel & Wire riverfront Plant I in Sterling, Illinois, that closed in 2001.
Phase 1 covers the demolition and recycling of six buildings on site, using excavators equipped with shears, grapples and pulverisers. IronHustler is carrying out the actual demolition work, with ELM coordinating the project, providing soil boring, materials testing, inspections and monitoring to prevent asbestos release from rubble piles and the deteriorating buildings.IronHustler uses the data thus gathered to determine and verify contamination and ensure proper material handling.
The former is using a DustBoss DB-60 dust suppression system from Dust Control Technology to blanket the work area to eliminate the potentially large amount of fugitive dust that could arise from the demolition process.
Iron Hustler president Dave Schielein carried out some research for an effective dust suppression solution, comparing equipment from several manufacturers, ultimately specifying the DB-60 over other candidates. "No other manufacturer delivers the quality and durability of the DustBoss," he commented. "Demolition job sites are tough on equipment, and we didn't want to invest in a modified leaf blower that wouldn't stand up to daily use."
