Kleven orders subsea Arctic units
26 August 2012
Norway-based shipbuilder Kleven Maritime has ordered two specialist Arctic offshore cranes from Cargotec for delivery in 2014.
The order includes a 400-tonne advanced offshore MacGregor active heave-compensated offshore crane with an outreach of 15 m. A second smaller crane, which will have a safe working load of 100 tonnes at 9 m outreach, is also included in the contract.
The cranes will both be equipped for cold climate operations, and will come with a MacGregor Arctic package. The cranes will be used for subsea operations down to 3,000 m and have been ordered for a subsea offshore construction vessel (OCV) being built for Eidesvik Offshore.
The 145 m SALT 301 OCV, designed by Salt Ship Design, is being built at Kleven Verft, Norway. An option remains for a sister ship delivery in spring 2015. Once delivered the OCV will be one of the largest and most advanced ships of its type, said the company.
