Palfinger platform secures Norway’s roads

Norwegian rental firm Drammen Liftutleie AS has taken delivery of a 61 m working height WT610 truck mounted platform from Palfinger Norway.

The unit, now one of the largest certified access platforms in the country, is to be used for mountain security work by highways contractor Gjerden fjellsikring AS.

Many of the country’s roads are bordered by rock wall. The WT610 will be used to carry out inspection and maintenance on these rock walls to ensure that debris does not fall onto the road below.

Safety nets made of high strength fibre or steel are attached to anchors in the walls, catching any debris that comes down. In order to attach these anchors, holes must be drilled in the walls, up to 1.5 m deep, and anchors installed to attach the safety nets to.

The WT610 has been customized with a reinforced construction to cope with the forces occurring when drilling into the walls. It also houses a high capacity Kaeser M80 compressor to power the drill and a maintenance cage, designed and built by Danilift Denmark AS.
