Pride of place on the Manitowoc stand at Intermat Middle East, the new construction equipment exhibition for the region being held in Abu Dhabi this week, was taken by the first Grove GMK6300L to be sold in the Middle East.

The 300 tonne capacity all terrain with 80 metre boom, has been acquired by Saudi Arabia-based rental company, Al-Mesallam. The company has the first two GMK6300L units in the region.

Covering two exhibition halls and an outdoor area, Intermat Middle East hosts many top industry names, including Kobelco, Liebherr, Manitowoc, and Sennebogen. Most are represented by their local dealerships.

The show takes place at what the region hopes is a time of change. Construction markets throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region have declined significantly over recent years but many believe that a recovery, albeit modest, is just around the corner. Investment in construction throughout the MENA region is expected to exceed US$620 billion over the next three years - a level that will almost certainly stimulate sales of construction equipment and rental activity.

Intermat Middle East was opened by His Excellency Engineer Ahmad Mohammed Shareef, under secretary of the Department of Municipal Affairs Abu Dhabi.
