JLG debuts scissors, technology

JLG used The ARA Show to round-out its R series of scissor lifts with the introduction of the 2632R and 3246R units. The 2632R allows operators to drive through a single doorway and work indoors at a height of 26 feet. The new 3246R features a 32-foot platform height. Among the innovations, customers will appreciate the exclusive variable tilt technology, which allows operators to elevate to limited heights when working on slight slopes, maximizing the work envelope.

Hampden Tener, senior director of global product management for the company, said, “Little things that we added were protectors for the control panel, new metal covers under the deck to protect all the guts, a foot pedal for the extension deck. We just keep improving these units.”

The 2632R offers several well-known features of the R Series, with an outdoor capability of 20 feet. This ANSI 92.20 compliant lift allows operators to drive through a single doorway and work indoors at a platform height of 26 feet.

The 3246R is set apart from the competition as the lightest lift in its class, JLG says. Also ANSI 92.20 compliant, the 3246R is ideal for applications that require a lightweight machine with a 32-foot platform height.

The entire family of R Series slab scissor lifts features intuitive technologies that differentiate them from the competition. Among the innovations, customers will appreciate the exclusive variable tilt technology, which allows operators to elevate to limited heights when working on slight slopes, maximizing the work envelope.

“We work closely with our customers to help design machines that meet and exceed their expectations,” said Rafael Nuñez, JLG senior product manager for scissor, vertical and low-level access lifts. “These two new lifts in our R Series fill out the core of our affordable line of hydraulically-driven scissors, which have been optimized to offer lower part replacement costs over the life of the unit. The new scissors complement our premium line of electric drive machines, which have a great reputation among rental customers and end users.”

The company also touted its AccessReady XR virtual reality-based training for operators including controls familiarization, machine operation and advanced spatial awareness challenges; its Enhanced Detection System (EDS), which is an evolution of the existing JLG Soft Touch System. EDS uses innovative ultrasonic technology to sense when an object is nearby – first slowing, then stopping the machine before it makes contact. And JLG announced its SmartLoad technology is now available for all of its telehandlers.

JLG also rolled out its mobile app to load stowed scissor lifts onto trailers. The industry-first app enables users to drive, steer and load R Series scissor lifts while in a stowed position from an iOS mobile device. The app is available as an option on new R Series scissor lifts, or available to purchase as an aftermarket option for existing machines. In testing, it was proven that the learning curve to use the app to move the machine around the jobsite took only minutes, even for inexperienced operators, JLG says.
