CE’s Editor Chris Sleight discusses forecasts for the European construction industry and analyses other indicators such as share price gains and our CE Barometer confidence survey to see when the market is likely to bounce back.

Market forecasts since the current global recession began have not been as accurate as usual. This was particularly true last year, as the full implications of the credit crunch began to be understood, and forecasts were revised downwards as a result.

There now seems to be more consensus about the prospects for the construction industry, and the economic situation is certainly better understood. The forecasts for the European construction industry all point to a return to growth within the next 12 months.

As discussed in this podcast, this view is supported by the CE Barometer confidence survey, and the rally in construction shares that has been seen since the markets bottomed-out in mid March.
