Cat makes its own breakers
15 February 2011
Caterpillar has launched four E Series breakers - the H110Es, H115Es, H120Es and H130Es - for use on the company's 321 to 329 (21 to 29 tonne) excavators and the 450E backhoe loader, initially for the North American market. Built at the company's new factory in Waco, Texas, USA, the E Series units are wholly designed, engineered and manufactured by Caterpillar, making the company the only global producer of both carriers and hammers.
The breakers feature a new housing design with a symmetrical shape, which allows turning the housing 180° to compensate for wear, effectively extending the life of the housing. A simple, replaceable rock claw minimizes abrasive wear. An optional wear package is available to further enhance hammer durability.
The E Series hammers incorporate several features from the D Series, such as an anti blank firing system and an external control to adjust operating pressure for easy service. Noise suppression is a standard feature.
Settings for the E Series are pre-programmed in the Caterpillar excavator tool control systems. This makes for easy set up and also allows the oil flow and pressure are fully adjustable to be adjusted. Also, actual hammer working hours can be recorded for routine maintenance purposes.
The new hammers are matched to the Cat 321 through 329 C, D and E track and wheel excavators. Mounting brackets are available for Cat couplers. The four E Series hammers replace the H100s, H115s, H120Cs and H130s.
