LEEA guide for runway designers and testers

21 June 2018

Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA), a representative body for the global lifting industry, is issuing a guide to the verification of runway beams.

According to LEEA, the guide will offer guidance regarding the current complex technical requirements for the design, manufacture and verification of runway beams. LEEA said the guide was necessary following the introduction of Eurocode verification in place of the previous BS 2853:1957 standard. There are 10 Eurocodes, LEEA explained, each of which are split into numerous sub parts covering a wide range of structures and structural elements. According to the association, this has resulted in too much information for runway designers to sift through, which is proving problematic for SMEs that do not have the resources available to enable them to adopt the changes. As a result, it has produced this guide as a means of directing runway designers and testers to those parts of the Eurocodes most relevant to them.
