Locatelli acquired by Venpa

15 April 2008

Family-owned mobile crane manufacturer Locatelli in Italy has been acquired by rental house Venpa 3 for an undisclosed sum.

Commenting on the sale, Michele Mortarino, Locatelli spokesperson, said, “We received many offers.” Business is good at Locatelli, “Production is fully booked until the end of the year. The market is strong, demand is very high,” Mortarino said.

Renewing the product range and developing production capability are short-term goals following the acquisition, it said in a Venpa 3 statement. Mortarino added that investment will also be made to further develop export markets.

Locatelli has been building rough terrain cranes for 53 years, offering a range up to 60 tonnes capacity, and city class mobiles to 40 tonnes.

Venpa 3, which began in 1981 by renting telescopic cranes, said the purchase completes its strategy and is “…a confirmation of the specialization on the uplifting sector from every point of view, from the rental service, the distribution department already developed, to the new manufacturing aspect.”

Venpa 3 rents a fleet of about 3,500 machines, including aerial platforms and other construction equipment, from 36 branches in Italy and in neighbouring countries, primarily in Eastern Europe.
