Mero-TSK of Germany has won the contract to design and build part of the dome structure for the Louvre museum in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The US$ 272 million Louvre project involves the construction of a dome-shaped building covering 24000 m2 and is scheduled for completion by 2013 according to project developers, the Tourism Development and Investment Company.
Construction of the Louvre in Abu Dhabi is just one of a number of prestigious projects currently underway on Saadiyat Island. Another is a brand new Formula One circuit that will host the inaugural Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this November.
Mero-TSK was also involved with the Grand Prix circuit when they constructed the steel roof structure for the Ferrari World theme park at the venue.
The contract for the enabling works at the Louvre Abu Dhabi will be announced next week, with piling works due to commence in July. The bid deadline for construction of the museum is 8 July.
