MEC extends Xtra-Deck to boom lifts

MEC’s Xtra-Deck is anow available for boom lifts

MEC Aerial Work Platforms is adding its Xtra-Deck onto boom lift products.

The manufacturer’s patent pending Xtra-Deck, until now available on MEC scissor lifts, offers a solution to the dangers of  operators standing on the mid-rail as they attempt to reach beyond the limits of the basket. The Xtra-Deck allows operators to safely gain extra height into confined areas.

Standing on the mid-rail is a violation of ANSI/SAIA A92.22-2020 Safe Use of MEWPs and ANSI/SAIA A92.24-2018 Training Requirements for operators of MEWPs. MEC says its Xtra-Deck exceeds the requirements of those new standards.

Like the MEC XD Scissors, the Xtra-Deck on Booms option provides an additional 20 inches of height with three telescopic guardrails. The guardrails on three sides of the Xtra-Deck slide up and lock into place, meeting regulation height. This additional protection enables the operator to freely use both hands to complete tasks.

Its narrow width allows access into tight work areas, while it can be quickly deployed and gives 250lbs capacity for one person. When the operator completes their work, the Xtra-Deck can quickly be stowed and the guardrails can be retracted to their original position. It can be field fitted to any MEC boom platform.

Coupled with MEC’s 34-J micro boom the Xtra-Deck comes into its own, says the company, for construction jobs that are under 40ft. The 34-J micro has a powerful four-wheel drive and positive traction with an oscillating front axle, as well as being compact and lightweight at 8,600 lbs (3,900kg).

The optional Proactive Platform Safety System (PPSS) secondary guarding system can also be added to enhance obstruction awareness. The 34-J can be towed with a full-size truck, or three units can fit on a flatbed truck. It also features a 72-inch platform including standard three-sided entry with a swing gate.
