New pedestrian detection camera technology

Safety is key on construction sites

The FTC Group UK has launched its Pedestrian Detection Camera into the construction market - the product is said to be able to work across any vehicle without the need for anyone on site to wear or carry tags.

The camera system works by detecting pedestrians within a 140 degree angle field of vision, with the possibility for multiple cameras to be fitted to cover a 360 degree field of vision if required.

According to the FTC Group what makes this system stand out is its ability to alert operators and pedestrians alike without the need for either to be fitted with or wearing tags – a benefit on sites where there are numerous different contractors working.

The camera software utilises a pre-defined algorithm to differentiate between the movement of people and objects. Variable fields of vision from 1-30m are organised around red, amber and green parameters, which can be configured in consultation with the customer.

A wide range of additions can be added to the system such as customised sounders, flashing beacons, continual recording drives and links to advanced telemetry systems.

“Construction projects often have lots of different contractors working closely together which often creates issues in managing safety concerns. Our product is not only modular allowing fitting to any vehicle, it also negates the need to enforce all pedestrians to wear proximity warning tags which is extremely difficult to manage on busy sites,” said Sean Hamill, business development manager, FTC Group UK.

It is currently available in several European countries, America and Australia.
