The official opening of Terex AWP's (Aerial Work Platforms) Changzhou manufacturing facility, located in a business park close to Shanghai, China was marked with drummers and dragon dancers.

The new Terex facility has been built to serve as the product development, parts distribution and service centre for China, it is approximately 260000 ft2 and is part of Terex AWP's global expansion plan to produce local products for local markets.

The facility offers a large factory floor designed to employ the lean production methods of the Terex Business System. It also includes a showroom to display finished products and a training area for customers, dealers and team members.

The site was also selected for its potential capabilities to become a future Terex Corporation manufacturing campus - to include manufacturing of other Terex business segment products, such as Materials Processing, Cranes or Construction.

Tim Ford, president, Terex AWP said, "This is an exciting achievement for the company as it marks the first ground-up launch of a Terex AWP factory. Our North American team members worked hand-in-hand with our new Changzhou team members to create a world-class manufacturing facility, of which we are exceptionally proud."

Already manufacturing the new Genie S-3200 and S-3800 telescopic booms for the shipbuilding market, and the S-100, S-105, S-120, and S-125 Super Booms, Terex AWP plans to incorporate four more product lines specifically for the Asian market.

XS Koo, vice president and managing director, Asia Pacific, Terex AWP said, "We need to provide superior products, designed and produced locally, to meet local demand and specifications. Manufacturing in China shortens lead times and frees up capacity in other locations, making it more effective and efficient process. This is particularly important for China as it becomes a major player in the aerial work platform category. It's a market in the making."

Terex AWP established a sales and distribution office in China 12 years ago for its Genie products, and since has become known for providing quality products and outstanding customer support. Aerial work platforms have gained popularity in many industries in Asia, including shipyards, airports, hotels, and factories.
