Austrian crane rental company Lauer Baumaschinen, is using four Potain tower cranes to work on a €10 million (US$ 13.5 million) ski resort in the Austrian Alps.

The Hinterlux Glacier Ski Resort is more than 2,660 metres above sea level. Conditions at the site include heavy snow fall, high winds and subzero temperatures. The cranes working on the project include a 6 tonne capacity MDT 128 and an 8 tonne capacity MDT 178 top slewing crane. They have been erected at heights of 35 m and 40 m, respectively. The MDT 178 has been configured with a 60 m jib and the MDT 128 has been fitted with a 55 m jib.

Also on site are two self erecting cranes, a 6 tonne capacity GTMR 346 B and a 4 tonne capacity GTMR 331 B. The GTMR 346 B has been configured with a 45 m jib, while the GTMR 331 B has a 35 m jib. Work for the cranes includes lifting construction materials. Due to the weather, all four tower cranes have heated cabs.

Harald Hornbacher, managing director at Lauer, said, “The schedule is crucial, not only to avoid the worst of the weather, which comes in November, but to ensure the resort is up and running for the upcoming ski season.

“That is why we are using our Potain tower cranes. We can rely on them for a fast assembly and efficient work. And I am pleased to report we are on schedule.”

The cranes will remain at the project site for six months.
