Simple Line Of Sight

20 March 2008

Leica Geosystems has added a line-laser to its range of laser measuring tools. The Lino L2 (pictured right) has an accuracy of +/- 1 mm in 5 m, making it “one of the most precise devices in its class”, says Leica.

The laser uses Leica's Power Range Technology that will “guarantee excellent visibility-even in a bright environment the lines are easy to see”, according to the company.

Leica says the laser has been designed to be very easy to use. It is self-leveling, and if the slope on the supporting surface is too great the laser will not operate.

Also new from Leica is the Rugby 50 (below) laser which it describes as tough and affordable. Doug Plantenga, product manager for construction lasers at Leica, says it had listened to key messages from contractors, “Keep it simple! Make it idiot proof, so that all we have to do is turn it on and it is ready to go…And that's just what we did.”

The Rugby 50 has a single button to turn it on and off. When turned on it self-levels and the head starts to rotate. The laser has a HI (Height of Instrument or Elevation) alert function, which monitors the laser as it works and stops operation if it detects any movement of the tripod.
