72 lines of Cometto SPMT for Navantia

Navantia Seanergies placed an order with specialized tranport equipment manufacturer Cometto for 72 axle lines of MSPE 48T self prepelled modular transporter.

The Spanish offshore wind and hydrogen technology company will use its new equipment to move monopile foundations for wind turbines where it builds them at the Spanish coastal town of Fene in the very north west of the country.

The SPMT will carry the monopiles from the production facility to the storage area and then out to the loading barge. Current monopiles weigh up to 2,000 tonnes but they are expected to get bigger and heavier as the size of wind turbines continues to increase.

Payload exceeds 3,000 tonnes

Combining the 12 modules, each of six axle lines with a capacity of 48 tonnes per line, would give a total payload of 3,150 tonnes. To go with the 72 axle lines will be three power pack units (PPU) each of 368 kW to provide the tractive force.

Also part of the order were the necessary elements to allow driving the transporter with up to 60 metres between the modules.

In addition to 48 tonnes per axle line, Cometto’s MSPE series is available with up to 70 tonnes capacity per axle line. This MSPE Evo3 70T is claimed as having the biggest payload in the market. MSPE 48T and 70T modules can be combined, in 2.4 or 3 metre wide units in modules with 2, 3, 4, 5 or six axle lines.

Navantia Seanergies designs, develops and manufactures foundations, including XXL monopiles, jackets, substations and more, for offshore wind energy projects.
