One of the 160,000 visitors to Bauma from outside of Germany was Rakesh Modi from India (pictured here) who is running the access rental division of Madras Tools & Shackles Ltd (MtandT). Mtandt Infrastructure has a fleet of around 35 aerials, including 20 recently ordered machines from Haulotte – 12 scissors and eight booms. Modi told ALH that he hoped to add a further 50 machines to his fleet this year and is investigating a joint venture with a Singapore–based rental company to bring more lifts into India. He says southern India is a fast growing market, with a lot of inward investment in factories by big companies like BMW and Hyundai. His main rental customers are in aviation, factory maintenance and the Indian railways. Mtandt also manufactures access towers, selling as many as 4,000 in India every year.
