APR Energy (APR) has won a rental contract with Électricité de France (EDF) to supply 20 MW of power to the Caribbean island of Martinique.

It is the first contract win under the partnership with Pratt & Whitney announced at the end of October, and follows a referral from Pratt & Whitney.

The power, which will be supplied by a single Pratt & Whitney MobilePac Dual Fuel Gas Turbine, will help Martinique meet higher than usual energy demands during its peak tourist season. The generator will be operational in early December.

John Campion, CEO of APR Energy, said: "We're delighted to be awarded this contract and to welcome EDF as a new client. It demonstrates both the strength of our strategic partnership with Pratt & Whitney and the speed with which we can install a turbine generator and produce electricity from it."

APR said it was its second turbine contract is has undertaken with a major utility. In April is supplied 203 MW to TEPCO in Japan following the earthquake and tsunami.
