Carillion scoops Canadian train station contract

Carillion Canada will oversee a CA$ 627 million (US$ 598 million) five-year regeneration project at Toronto's Union Station.

As construction manager Carillion Canada will provide the city with a range of specialist services, including contract management and supervision to coordinate and control all construction activities, a statement from the company said.

Construction will include the restoration of heritage features in the existing station, the construction of a new upper-level transport concourse and a new retail concourse beneath the station.

In the statement Carillion chief executive John McDonough, said, "We are delighted to have been selected by the City of Toronto to deliver this prestigious project, which further reinforces Carillion Canada's reputation for delivering high quality projects through integrating its wide range of skills and resources.

"We look forward to working closely with the City of Toronto to create a world-class transport and retail facility."

Carillion said its business in Canada is expected to grow significantly in 2009, following the acquisition of the Vanbots Group and the strong positions it has developed in the Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects and road maintenance markets. This latest success further strengthens Carillion Canada's healthy order book and outlook, the statement added.
