Crane Institute of America (CIA), a premier provider of training for heavy-equipment operators, riggers, signalpersons, inspectors and managers, has announced the appointment of L.D. Stutes as its new general manager.

L.D. Stutes, general manager, Crane Institute of America

L.D. Stutes enters this newly created position with 37 years of experience in business ownership, sales, and management, including 17 years dedicated to heavy-equipment training operations. His track record in enhancing operational effectiveness positions him as a key player in CIA’s evolution to meet the growing and dynamic needs of its customers in the heavy-equipment, lifting, and construction industries.

As general manager, Stutes will assume many of the operational responsibilities previously handled by CIA founder James Headley. Headley, who remains the company’s president and CEO, expressed confidence in Stutes’ leadership.

“I started the company 40 years ago to provide the industry’s best training,” said Headley. “Our dedicated and knowledgeable employees have done exactly that. I’ve admired L.D.’s work in our industry for many years, and I’m excited that he is helping lead Crane Institute strongly into the future.”

“I’m excited to join Crane Institute and the respected reputation that it has built over the years,” said Stutes. “I look forward to leading the company as it continues to make training more effective, convenient and efficient in the coming years.”

In addition to his role at Crane Institute of America, Stutes will also serve as general manager of Crane Institute Certification (CIC). Founded by Headley, CIC operates as an independent entity accredited by ANSI to certify crane operators. Headley continues to lead CIC as its president and CEO.
