International high-pressure hydraulics company Enerpac has been awarded a contract from USA-based S.T. Cotter Turbine Services to build a Rotor Removal System.

According to Enerpac, the Rotor Removal System will provide S.T. Cotter with a tool to reduce the time and labour needed during the removal and installation of a generator’s rotor. The hydraulically actuated system is said to improve the efficiency and safety of turbine field maintenance.

The generator rotor removal and installation system is a custom-developed product for removing and installing the rotor (field) in a power plant’s generator. Enerpac said that the system is designed to comply with the varying dimensions and challenging accessibility of a plant’s generator, and that there are several configurable solutions that utilize hydraulics to push, pull and position the rotor at multiple height requirements.
