Garic is offering construction sites the chance to save money on spending a penny with its new eco-friendly mobile welfare unit. The UK-based manufacturer of site welfare solutions has launched its first ever solar-powered unit.

Developed at a cost of £4 million (€4.66 million), Garic's 12v Eco Armadillo unit is powered by solar PV cells backed up by a 12 V generator. Tests have shown that the new units use 80% less CO2 than a standard 240 V diesel powered unit and reduced fuel costs by up to £150 (€175) a week.

Further eco-friendly features include motion sensor activated LED lighting. The Eco Armadillo also offers hot running water in the toilet area, thermostatic heating, Autofrost winter protection and an instant hot water facility that delivers boiling water to make a cup of tea at the push of a button.

The 12v Eco Armadillo also features anti-vandal door locks and shutters, hydraulic chassis to lower it to the ground when in position for stability and security, as well as a fully lockable steel tow hitch cover. It is towable by any standard light goods vehicles to help reduce transportation costs.

According to Steven Booth, sales and marketing manager at Garic, the new welfare unit is not only cost-effective but also future-proofed from changes in health and safety regulations, as the unit also exceeds current legislative requirements for site welfare provision.
