Genie innovates at the Rental Show

Genie has announced a range of initiatives at the Rental Show in Orlando, USA. They include, a secondary guarding licensing agreement with Lavendon, a system to allow telematics devices to be plugged into Genie booms, and a direct to rental company sales and parts service.

Based on Lavendon’s SkySiren technology, the Genie Operator Protective Alarm (OPA) system can be retrofitted to any Genie articulating or telescopic boom lift manufactured after 2002.

The system interrupts boom movement, sounds an alarm and causes a light to flash. It is now available as an aftermarket option but will soon be offered as a factory-installed option.

Genie will continue to offer the Operator Protective Structure (OPS). Introduced in 2012, the Genie OPS may be attached to boom lifts with 6 ft to 8 ft platforms. “Our customers requested an additional option for operator overhead protection. By offering the OPA along with the Genie Operator Protective Structure, our customers will be able to configure the machine as appropriate to the jobsite conditions,” said Frank Schneider, booms product manager, Terex AWP.

Genie is also introducing what it describes as the industry’s first telematics-ready connector to enable telematics devices to be plugged into Genie boom lifts. The connector is now available on the Genie S-80 and Z-80 boom lifts, and will be available on the S-100, S-120 and ZX-135 models by the end of the first quarter. Genie will also introduce the connector on machines boom heights below 80 ft over the next year.

In addition, the company announced the North American Direct 2 Rental (D2R) cross-selling initiative that will sell, service and provide parts and warranty support for select Terex Construction and Terex Crane products, to allow rental customers easier access to products and reduce cost of ownership.

Genie will offer three of the most popular Terex products in the rental channel through the D2R initiative: the Terex TLB840 backhoe loader, the Terex BT 3870 and the BT 4792 boom trucks. Terex and Genie will add additional products will be added to the D2R initiative in the future.
