Giant test pad installed at Liebherr factory

Ready-mixed concrete supplier Betonpumpen-Union (BPU) has completed work on a new test pad at the Liebherr factory in Ehingen, Germany.
The company used a Liebherr truck mounted concrete pump equipped with a Powerbloc drive unit to carry out the works.
The 42 M5 XXT model pumped roughly 750m³ of concrete to create the high-load test pad, completing the work in just one day.
It will be used for quality control testing the manufacturer’s newly built mobile and crawler cranes.
According to Liebherr, the newly developed Powerbloc unit integrates all the hydraulic switching and measuring elements of the mobile concrete pump and eliminates the need for numerous hydraulic hoses and other components.
The drive includes a semi-closed oil circuit that ensures all the truck mount’s drives are reliably supplied with hydraulic power.
Christian Klafszky, managing director of BPU Ulm, said, “What I particularly like about this machine is the quiet and powerful operation of the pump unit. This is possible thanks to the new Powerbloc system.”
BPU’s 42 M5 XXT features a 5-part distributor boom and has an operating weight of less than 32 tonnes. The company purchased the model following Liebherr’s launch of the Powerbloc drive at Bauma 2019.
