Norty Turner, Riwal CEO gave the keynote speach.

Riwal's CEO Norty Turner got this year's Europlatform conference off to a lively start with his keynote speech entitled Managing Rental Performace (see video link below).

He emphasised the need for strategy and communication and shared Riwal's six core components to developing its strategy.

The six components are: vision, mission, value, individual strategies, objectives and action plan. Mr Turner explained how these are combined to create a "one page plan" for each of the senior managers - each one individual but cross referencing the others with measurable, time specific actions.

The strategies are cascaded down through the company ensuring that everyone understands the direction the company is heading. "There can be only one result," said Mr Turner, "only success."

Mr Turner's energy set the tone for an informative, thought provoking conference, delivered to an enthusiastic audience gathered in Edinburgh, Scotland from all over Europe.

Duncan Hullis director of UK sales and European programme management De Lage Landen prepared the delegates for the impact that Basel III and accounting changes will bring to the availability of finance for the rental industry.

Kai Schliephake managing director of Partnerlift described the particular character of the German rental market and Jesper Rom Knudsen explained the benefits that a properly employed telematics system can bring to the rental market.

Michael Kampe fleet director of Ramirent proved a gem of a speaker, both entertaining his audience and providing some very valuable information about calculating the total cost of ownership of rental equipment.

The value of social media in promoting your business was addressed by Patrick Rizzo marketing director of Loxam. Murray Pollok managing editor of Access International gave a brief but insightful look at the fleet trends and market forecasts and Chris Wraith IPAF's technical officer addressed the topical issue of anti-entrapment devices.

The general consensus of the delegates was of an informative conference with plenty to take away to implement in their own businesses.

The next Europlatform in 2013 will be held in Instanbul, Turkey on 3 October 2013 www.europlatform.info for more details.
