An 80 tonne capacity lattice boom crawler crane has been launched by Hitachi Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Crane Co., Ltd. (HSC) in Japan. The new SCX800E is the third model in the SCX E-series where it joins the SCX550E and SCX700E.

The 80 tonne capacity is at a 3.2 metre radius and the maximum main boom is 54.5 m. Power is from a 140 kW Isuzu 6HK1 EU Stage II / Tier 2 diesel engine. Maximum line speeds are 75 metres per minute on the front and rear winches and 62 m/min on the boom hoist winch.

Superior safety is a key feature highlighted by the manufacturer. In addition to the standard anti-two block system there is a secondary boom hoist limiting device. An automatic drum lock is also standard on the boom hoist winch which automatically locks and releases the drum and helps prevent accidents, HSC said.

Operator comfort is enhanced by a 1,040 mm wide cabin which is wider than usual. HSC said proven simple hydraulic and electrical circuitry is used and the design follows a centralised layout for filters, fuses and relays to minimise downtime and reduce the maintenance requirement.
