UK-based architects RMJM has been given the go-ahead for a 46-storey tower in Moscow, named the City Palace, for developers City Palace Tower.

The tower is the latest addition to the Moscow City development, a major initiative by the Russian capital to create a central business district on a former industrial zone three miles from the Kremlin.

Designed in collaboration with Scottish artist Karen Forbes the twisting building, which consists of male and female halves that intertwine as the building rises, will provide about 80000 m 2 of retail and leisure space, with 85000 m 2 of offices.

The tower will sit on a carved plinth, housing a shopping centre and leisure facilities, which will form the gateway to the City Palace Tower, the Moscow City Convention Centre and the Major's Tower.
