In Memoriam: Harry “Scott” Smith, 1954-2023

Harry “Scott” Smith, 69, of Winfield, WV passed away on October 24, 2023 at his home. He was born on August 8, 1954 to Harry Carl and Carolyn Ann Brown Smith in Hagerstown, MD.

Smith’s extensive contributions in the crane and lifting industry spans well over four decades, enjoying years of success with Grove, JLG and Terex prior to joining Manitex. He joined Manitex in 2013 as manager of industrial crane sales. He we customer focused, drive and dedicated to taking care of his customers, sometimes driving 1,000 miles one-way to support a customer in need. Scott’s dedication to his customers and passion for the industry was unsurpassed and recognized by so many.

He was also an avid golfer where he was a member of Sleepy Hollow Golf Course, loved racing and had a passion for Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.”

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter: Ashley Schmid (Ronnie); granddaughters: Luci and Rori all of Ocean City, NJ; sisters: Carla Hammond (Steve) of Elizabethtown, PA and Kendra Miller of Hagerstown, MD; girlfriend: Amy Shupe of Winfield, WV; and a niece: Cortney Lane (Dennis).
