JCB to launch site dumper range

JCB will launch a range of 1 to 10 tonne capacity site dumpers in February thanks to an OEM supply agreement with Terex.

The range will comprise 1, 2, 3, 3.5, 6, 9 and 10 tonne capacity machines. JCB said the 1 and 2 tonne dumpers were designed for house building and landscaping applications, while the 3 and 3.5 tonne models were intended for general construction applications and rental customers. The three biggest models are expected to be used in larger scale earthmoving projects.

High-tip and swivel skip models will be offered in certain weight classes besides standard forward tipping models, and both synchro-shuttle and hydrostatic transmissions are available.

The site dumper range will be available from JCB dealers from February 2015 and will be progressively rolled out to JCB dealers around the world. The official launch will be at the 2015 Executive Hire Show in Coventry, UK in February.

JCB chief innovation and growth officer Tim Burnhope said: “The addition of the site dumper product adds another dimension to the JCB product range. The JCB site dumper will have the fantastic benefit of being backed up by the JCB dealer network, with its renowned levels of service support.”

Neal Nowick, general manager of Terex Construction, added, “The agreement will provide exciting long-term growth and allows another opportunity for Terex to benefit from increasingly positive market conditions. In order to meet increased customer demand and rising production requirements, we have committed to investing in our facilities over the next few months, expanding production capabilities to facilitate additional volumes. This new contract, which is in addition to our existing Terex manufacturing activity, is a huge boost for our company.”

JCB said the machines have been designed for ease of operation with a simple, clear dashboard and automotive-style controls. The dumpers are also claimed to offer best-in-class ground-level service access, with engine panels mounted on heavy-duty hinges. Swivel tip models have a swing-locking device to ensure that the skip remains locked in position while travelling. In addition all 6-10 tonne models come with oil-immersed disc brakes as standard.

Other design features include heavy-duty articulating and oscillating chassis frames and construction featuring thick steel side walls and heavy-duty steel front and base plates, for increased reliability and longevity.

The dumpers are being manufactured in the UK on JCB’s behalf by Terex GB. In December it was recently that JCB Power Systems had signed a deal worth UK£ 4.5 million (US$6.8 million) a year to supply Terex GB with JCB Ecomax diesel engines, rated at 55kW, for use in its 6 tonne dumper models. Terex GB also uses JCB transmissions and transfer boxes in its 6, 9 and 10 tonne machines.
