Lampson fits Rayco-Wylie RCI to Kvaerner crane
15 November 2018
Norwegian engineering, procurement and construction specialist Kvaerner Verdal has had a rated capacity indicator (RCI), made by Canadian-headquartered crane monitoring solutions specialist Rayco-Wylie, fitted to its Lampson LTL 1500 SIII Transi-Lift crane in Verdal, Norway.
The Transi-Lift is a heavy lift crane that Lampson International describes as combining the heavy lifting capacities of stiff leg derricks and ring mounted lift equipment with the mobility of a conventional crawler crane. The crane is being used with a 104-metre main boom and a 37-metre jib with a 15° offset.
Rayco-Wylie’s i4507 system was installed, together with a seven-inch colour display and integrated wind speed indicator. Rayco-Wylie said this will provide the operator with clear and accurate information regarding the load being lifted, the radius of the load, and the corresponding safe working load for that radius – alerting them if the limits are approached.
Additional information, such as current wind speed and a quick-reference graphical indication of the percentage of Safe Working Load being lifted, is also displayed.
If the crane is reconfigured, the new setup can be selected from the i4507’s preloaded chart library.
The installation was carried out by Lampson with a Rayco-Wylie engineer from the UK attending site for the calibration and testing of the system, as well as training of Kvaerner staff.
