Leicester City Football Club in the UK has won formal approval for a hybrid application to expand the King Power Stadium as part of a wider masterplan.

The Club initially submitted an application in October 2021 for an East Stand expansion of 8,000 seats, along with an outline application for a masterplan involving a fanzone, public realm, event and entertainment area, a 220-room hotel, a residential tower, and a new club retail space.

The Club said that the wider masterplan was “critical” to the viability of the overall project, and the grant of outline planning permission by Leicester City Council for the additional elements .

It said it would now “reassess its detailed proposals in light of market dynamics, which have changed significantly since the club’s proposals were initially submitted”.

The club has since bought extra land adjacent to the stadium since the planning application was submitted and it said it would factor this into its vision for the area.

It added, “The club looks forward to advancing those detailed proposals, while continuing to monitor associated market conditions, which will enable us to plan an appropriate timeline for development work to commence.”
