Liebherr launches 150 tonne telescopic boom crawler crane

Manufacturer Liebherr has expanded its range of telescopic boom crawler cranes with the new 150 tonne capacity LTR 1150.
It slots into the range between the 100 tonne capacity LTR 1100 and the 220 tonne LTR 1220. Highlights include economical transport and it is the first telescopic crawler crane with Liebherr’s VarioBase system to maximise available capacity.
It has a 52 metre boom and the available extensions increase its maximum available hook height to 83 metres.
Capacity is 50 per cent more than its smaller LTR 1100 sibling but it is similarly easy to transport, Liebherr said. Including the crawler track frames total weight is given as 60 tonnes and the transport width is 3.5 metres. Removing the crawlers reduces the largest load to 38 tonnes and a width of 3 metres. “Compact and strong, transport in one,” is how the manufacturer phrases it.
To remove the 11 tonne crawlers a system of four swivelling hydraulic jack cylinders is fitted so the transport trailer can drive underneath the crane when its tracks are off. It is like the system on the LTR 1100.
Putting it together
Easy ballasting is another feature of the new model. In four lifts the entire counterweight can be mounted. It needs two lifts for the two 11-tonne central slabs and two for the 41 tonne maximum slewing platform ballast.
VarioBase determines load capacity in real time according to track width and slewing angle. Its main benefit is maximising available capacity when lifting over the corners of the tracks, especially when track width has been reduced. Track width settings are available at 5.8, 5.0 and 3.5 metres.
Like other LTR models, the new one has load charts for inclines up to 4 degrees. These are at 0.3, 0.7, 1.5, 2.5 and 4 degrees out of level. So-called “WindSpeed Load Charts” are also available, making it possible to operate up to 15.6 metres per second, at the full load capacity in many boom positions, the manufacturer said.
Applications include support work on wind energy projects for turbine installation and maintenance where its heavy duty pick and carry capability is of particular value.
