Delivery of A New Caterpillar 385C Excavator to A Gneiss Quarry Near Locarno in Switzerland has helped to increase productivity by more than +10%.

The Vergelletto Piano delle Cascine quarry produces up to 20000 m3 of gneiss blocks each year but access to the site is difficult. Swiss Cat dealer Avesco had to completely disassemble the excavator to transport it up the narrow mountain access roads.

Since delivery to the quarry last year, the 385C has been working up to 12 hours per day and has proved to be more efficient than the 385B machine it replaced. The 385C is powered by a 383 kW Cat C18 engine and is fitted with the latest version of Cat's Smart Boom which allow the boom to lower under its own weight, freeing power for othe machine functions.

Quarry owner Edgardo Pollini said, “The improved comfort and visibility combined with simplified operations mean less fatigue for the operator and higher productivity.”
