MEC Aerial Work Platforms has debuted a brand-new boom lift geared toward the rental market. The 34-J diesel telescopic boom features 40 feet of working height with a standard 5-foot jib for 135-degree jib range of motion. The unit weighs 8,000 pounds, allowing it to be towed with a full-size pickup truck, and features a 6-foot platform. Power comes from a 24.9 hp Kubota Tier 4 Final engine.

MEC introduced the unit at The ARA Show in Orlando, and Gary Crook, vice president of engineering for MEC, told ALH the unit is exceptionally suitable for smaller and independent rental companies looking to own booms.

“We wanted to focus on reducing costs for rental companies,” said Crook. “This is a perfect, low-cost entry.”

The 34-J uses a two-section boom to provide an unrestricted platform capacity of 500 pounds and has a maximum outreach of 26 feet. Its sweet spot is in its stature; when stowed, the unit is just 20-feet-long, 92-inches-wide and has an overall height of 95 inches.

All of MEC’s packages, such as its glazier, cold start and Proactive Platform Safety System, are available for the boom lift.

Visitors attending ConExpo will be able to see the machine in person at MEC’s booth (F5825.)
