A new public transport monorail line in Brazil has been moved closer to completion with the help of a large number of cranes. Notable among them are wheeled mobiles from the Mongel company.

São Paulo is one of Brazil’s – and the world’s – largest cities. Completion of its new metro Line 17 Gold is now due in mid-2026. It will connect Congonhas Airport with the Morumbi area to the north west, via the Jardim Vila Olímpia sports complex and the Morumbi stadium.

Long-running project

Construction of the overhead monorail line was started in 2012. Challenges along the way involved finances, politics, and technicalities. It was originally intended to be finished in time for the 2014 football World Cup. Progress is now being made again.

Mongel put its more than 40 years of experience to good use on several stages of this lengthy project. It used its fleet of all terrain cranes from manufacturer Sany in China. Largest was the 700 tonne capacity model SAC7000S. Others used were the 600 tonne SAC6000C8 and the 250 tonne SAC2500S.
