New Tier 3 compressor from Sullair

14 January 2021

Sullair has launched a Tier 3 engined version of its OFD1550 oil free portable air compressor.

The compressor is for applications including construction, plants or refineries, and provides 1550 cfm of air with adjustable pressures up to 150 psi. The new Tier 3 engine enables Sullair to serve additional markets with different emissions requirements, primarily the Middle East and Latin America.

The launch adds to the Tier 4 Final version, which was introduced in early 2019 for the North American market.

Stephanie Roberts, Director, Communications for Sullair told IRN, “We identified a need to offer our rental customers 100% oil free air in a mobile package. The OFD1550 satisfies both short- and long-term rental customer needs and gives rental houses additional flexibility to satisfy more customer applications and provide higher utilisation rates, resulting in more profits. Customers who may rent this compressor would include any users who need dedicated oil free air on either a jobsite (say, oil and gas) or as plant back-up oil free air at their facility, or pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, electronics customers.”

The Tier 3 model is available with either Caterpillar or Perkins engines. The unit includes a two-stage Sullair air end with high efficiency rotors designed for oil free operation. The rotors are coated with an FDA-approved food-grade PTFE to help resist corrosion and extend air end life.

“Since we introduced our Tier 4 Final OFD1550, we’ve seen a tremendous response from our rental customers and end users, so we’re pleased to introduce the Tier 3 compliant unit into additional markets,” said Jerel Cole, Senior Product Manager at Sullair.

“The oil free market continues to expand, and this compressor will help satisfy increased customer demand.

The Tier 3 OFD1550 has features implemented following customer feedback, including a touch screen controller providing compressor and engine operation data; the ability to operate at altitudes of up to 12,000 ft (3,658 m) above sea level; ease of serviceability and large access doors for easy cooler cleaning, and Sullair AirLinx remote monitoring and telematics.

It also features complete fluid containment to meet standards in environmentally sensitive areas. Optional extras include a Refinery Package (including anti-static belt, non-metallic fan, and spark arrestor) and a Cold Weather Package allowing operation at temperatures as low as -20°F (-29°C).

Sullair is a subsidiary of Hitachi Group, with US manufacturing plants in Michigan City and Indiana, and in China (Suzhou), along with a IHI-Sullair joint venture in Suzhou.
