New zero tail-swing from Yanmar
09 September 2016
Manufacturer Yanmar has introduced a new 5.5 tonne mini excavator in the shape of the zero tail-swing ViO57-6.
Yanmar said that, while the length of the boom stayed at 2950mm, its form had been radically changed, improving the lifting force of the ViO57-6 by 10% and offering a compact turning radius.
It said this new design also reduced the weight of the structure by 40kg and increased stability. The boom structure has been strengthened to enhance durability and its service life, according to Yanmar, with complete protection for all boom and arm cylinders – the aim is to reduce the total cost of ownership of the machine.
A new x-shaped box-section undercarriage design was also said to improve durability and stability, and reduce the machine height to 2.54m, which facilitates transportation.
Powered by a 48.4hp (36.1kW) TNV engine, Yanmar said the ViO57-6 was also equipped as standard with an Eco mode which effectively controls the motor speed, reducing it by 300rpm, reducing fuel consumption.
It said the machine also boasted an auto-deceleration device as standard - allowing the engine to drop back to idle if the operator doesn’t touch the operating levers for four seconds.
