Peab has been commissioned to carry out a reconstruction of the E45 European route in central Gothenburg, Sweden, for the Swedish Trafikverket, with a contract amounting to approximately SEK1.02 billion (€109.40 million).

The work includes a lowering of the E45 road in central Gothenburg from Lilla Bommen to Marieholm by approximately 6m along an 800m stretch.

Half the distance will be decked over, creating opportunities for building on top of the tunnel roof. The rest of the lowered road is in preparation for future decking, according to Berth Larsson, regional manager at Peab.

The renovation includes a bridge at Gullbergsmotet widened to create two through lanes on the E45.

Construction will start this spring and the project is expected to be completed in 2020.

Peab has offices in Sweden, Norway and Finland.
