Plane breaking permit gained by ASD
29 May 2012
A new DDS Demolition company, Aircraft Salvage & Disposal (ASD), is the first UK operation to receive a permit to decommission and dismantle aircraft as they reach their end of life. New legislation enacted by the UK's Environment Agency (EA) now requires that such a permit be obtained before such operations can be undertaken. Having experience of such work, DDS established ASD as a sister company.
The new company has been working closely with the EA on its first outing following the granting of the permit, where it decommissioned a McDonnell Douglas DC10 aircraft at Manston International Airport, in order to refine and improve the methods that it plans to use to carry out such work, as well as to help the EA to fully understand the processes involved in such operations.
