Riga Mainz on crane installation
15 July 2013
Crane service provider Riga Mainz installed a container crane at the Rhine Port in Gustavsburg, Germany, using a Terex CC 2500-1 crawler crane.
The port container crane, owned by logistics company Contargo, has a 77.3 metre girder boom and weighs around 150 tonnes. It was transported from Mainz port to Gustavsburg port on a barge along the River Rhine.
To assemble the container crane at its new location, Riga Mainz set up the 500 tonne capacity crawler in an SL configuration with a 54 m boom. The central ballast weighed 40 tonnes, the superstructure ballast weighed 160 tonnes, and the superlift ballast weighed 100 tonnes.
To prevent the component from swinging dangerously during the process, Riga Mainz used an assist crane. Additional assist cranes were also used to lift the container crane columns on which the girder would be mounted.
The entire assembly process was completed in two days.
