Canadian equipment auction company Ritchie Bros. has opened a permanent auction site in Narita, Japan. An official ribbon cutting ceremony for the facility on the outskirts of the Tokyo conurbation will be held on January 27 ahead of an auction.

Ritchie Bros. area manager Mike Scott said, "This is the first permanent auction site to be opened by Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers in Japan and our 40th auction site to be developed globally. We will be conducting regular auctions at the Narita site starting with the January 27th sale."

Facilities include a 570-seat theatre with a large screen, onto which pictures of each sale item will be projected. Other facilities include office space, a check-in area for registration and an equipment washing area.

In keeping with other Ritchie Bros. auctions, the sale at the Narita site will be unreserved, meaning items are sold with no minimum bid. Items will be sold in Japanese Yen, but the auction will be open to buyers from around the world. Items already put up for sale include excavators, crawler tractors and wheeled loaders, along with 50 unused New Holland agricultural tractors.
